Why you should invest in Universal Stairs

Quality of access.........

With an increasing pressure to provide safe and quality access in and around building sites Universal Stairs provide the optimum solution.

With Universal stairs the user is not limited to fixed levels within the structure and does not have to compromise the quality of access provided by a scaffold in order to suit a fixed height stair system.

Floor level lifts are catered for as standard with Universal Stair, negating the need for cumbersome and time consuming level make ups , throw ins, hop-ups, cantilevers using short tubes and separate treads etc, which all reduce the quailty of access and introduce odd/irregular steps within the flight.

By virtue of an integral guard rail Universal Stairs can also be used independant of any scaffold or framework structure, enabling them to be used within stairwells and between floor levels of existing buildings, the absence of scaffolding in these situations brings significant benefits in terms of floor level obstructions, speed of installation and overal footprint area.

Unlike conventional system stairtowers Univeral Stairs can be erected either externally to the scaffold or internally in a similar fashion to traditional ladder access, this enables the access to be distributed seamlessly throughout the scaffold or structure and located exactly where required rather than at a singular location only.

Utilisation...............

Utilisation of components is key to sound investment, here Universal Stair brings significant benefits.

Consider the minimum number of different part types required for a basic system stairtower:

  1. Adjustable base jacks
  2. Starting Collars
  3. Standards
  4. Ledgers
  5. Transoms
  6. Diagonal braces
  7. Landings
  8. Stair units
  9. Internal guard rails
  10. External guard rails
  11. Decking units
  12. Deck locks
  13. Tube and fittings

Many of the different part types above will also be required in different sizes ie 2,3,4m standards 1,2,3m ledgers/transoms etc. The number of different parts (as opposed to part types) is therefore significant.

Compare this to the different number of part types for a Universal Stairtower:

  1. Tube and fittings
  2. Universal stairs

Assuming you already own a stock holding of tube and fitting, Universal stairtowers require only 1 additional component type in order to construct a perfect stairtower.

The chances of running out of the correct components to do a job is therefore very slim. If you want to erect an 6 floor level lift stairtower you need tube and fitting + 6 stairs ! View all the parts required here.

With conventional stairtowers a whole array of additional parts are required in order to provide a lift anything other than 2m, and still the limitation of +/- 500mm exists which far exceeds any permissible step.

A majority of the parts required to construct a conventional system tower have no other use whatsoever in the day to day business of a tube and fitting scaffold contractor, this requires the purchase of a large number of parts that can only be used for one very specific application.

ASP Universal Stairs are different, each stair can be used for internal building access, stairtowers, sloping ground, roof access and standalone access to cabins or flat roofs etc.

With an selection of different head fittings to suit a range of applications utilisation of existing stocks and stairs is maximised and guaranteed.

Whole life cost...........

Whole life cost is the cost of a product over its life taking into account the associated costs of purchase, storage, maintenance and utilisation. Each different component type requires separate identification, storage and maintenance both in service and out of service reducing the number of parts therefore significantly reduces the value in terms of whole life costs. ASP Universal stairs bring significant advantages with respect to stock control, servicing and maintenance as only 1 component over and above any stock holding of tube and fitting is required.

Serviceability.............

ASP Universal stairs are designed for ease of maintenance and servicing, welding has been reduced to an absolute minimum with all connections being bolted or riveted. Damage to any tread component can easily be repaired by simply removing the damaged tread and replacing with a spare part. This is a simple operation requiring no special tools or skills.

Availability.............

Universal stairs are provided by all major scaffolding distributors and stockist's within the UK.

Substantial stocks are maintained at all times enabling rapid response to any user demands.
